Van Hoy Residence
Santa Barbara, California
During a consultation with a local celebrated architect and his family, a desire
was expressed for a free flowing landscape that sits lightly on the land with a
minimal use of hardscape materials. Kiesel Design imagined a bold abstract riverine
concept realized with sweeps of colorful ornamental grasses and succulents, representing
water channels and sandbars that flow in and around concrete pavers. The fully enclosed
rear area is installed with a tough variety of fescue lawn, used to train English
Border Collies. A defined edge of yellow bamboo, burgundy, grey-green, red and chartreuse
plantings complement and contrast with the architect's custom designed sage green
zinc fence.- Featured in Los Angeles Times
